What is Cultivation?

Cultivation means growing crops in fields. Farmers prepare the land, sow seeds, and take care of the crops until they are ready to be harvested.

Who are Farmers?

  • Farmers are people who grow crops and vegetables.

  • They work hard in the fields.

  • They help feed the entire country.

Stages of Cultivation

  1. Ploughing 

    • The land is loosened using a plough.

    • It makes the soil soft so seeds can grow easily.

  2. Sowing Seeds 

    • Seeds of crops like wheat, rice, or pulses are sown in the soil.

  3. Watering 

    • Water is given to crops using canals, tube wells, or rain.

    • Plants need water to grow.

  4. Adding Manure or Fertilizers 

    • Manure or fertilizers are added to make the soil rich in nutrients.

  5. Weeding

    • Unwanted plants (weeds) are removed so they don’t steal nutrients from crops.

  6. Harvesting

    • When the crop is ready, it is cut and collected.

    • Machines or hand tools are used for harvesting.

  7. Storage 

    • Crops are stored in godowns or granaries to keep them safe from insects and moisture.
