Class 4 EVS Chapter 2 Sense Organs @kidsknowledgepoint

Our body has five sense organs that help us understand the world around us. These organs are our windows to the outside world, helping us see, hear, smell, taste, and feel things. Let's learn about each one!

1. Eyes – The Organ of Sight

  • Function: The eyes help us see everything around us – colors, shapes, and movements. They also help us read, watch, and recognize people and things.
  • How They Work: Light enters the eyes, passes through the lens, and forms an image on the back of the eye (retina). The brain then understands what we are seeing.

2. Ears – The Organ of Hearing

  • Function: The ears help us hear sounds like music, people talking, birds chirping, and even a car honking.
  • How They Work: Sound waves enter the ear, travel through the ear canal, and reach the eardrum. The eardrum sends signals to the brain, which tells us what we are hearing.

3. Nose – The Organ of Smell

  • Function: The nose helps us smell different scents, such as the fragrance of flowers, the aroma of food, or the smell of rain.
  • How It Works: The nose has tiny hair-like structures called cilia that capture smells and send signals to the brain, helping us identify different odors.

4. Tongue – The Organ of Taste

  • Function: The tongue helps us taste sweet, sour, salty, bitter, and umami (savory) flavors in the food we eat.
  • How It Works: The tongue has tiny bumps called taste buds that sense different tastes and send signals to the brain.

5. Skin – The Organ of Touch

  • Function: The skin helps us feel different sensations like heat, cold, pain, and pressure. It also helps us feel the texture of things, like whether they are smooth, rough, soft, or hard.
  • How It Works: The skin has millions of tiny nerve endings that send messages to the brain about what we are touching.

Fun Facts

  • The tongue has about 10,000 taste buds!
  • Our nose can remember around 50,000 different scents.
  • The skin is the largest sense organ in our body!

These five sense organs work together to help us understand and enjoy the world around us. That’s why it’s important to take good care of them!
