Class 4 EVS Chapter 8 Plant Life @worldofworksheetswow8570

Plants are an essential part of our environment. They provide us with food, oxygen, and many other resources. Let’s explore the different parts of a plant and how they help it grow!

Parts of a Plant

  1. Roots

    • The roots grow underground and help the plant absorb water and minerals from the soil. They also anchor the plant in the ground so it doesn’t get blown away by the wind.
  2. Stem

    • The stem supports the plant and helps transport water, minerals, and food to different parts of the plant. It acts like a pipeline, carrying water from the roots to the leaves and food from the leaves to the rest of the plant.
  3. Leaves

    • The leaves are the kitchen of the plant. They take in sunlight and use it to make food through a process called photosynthesis. The leaves absorb carbon dioxide from the air and release oxygen, which we breathe.
  4. Flowers

    • Flowers are the reproductive part of the plant. They attract insects like bees, which help in pollination, leading to the production of fruits and seeds.
  5. Fruits

    • Fruits contain seeds, which grow into new plants. The fruit protects the seeds and helps them spread when animals eat the fruit and carry the seeds elsewhere.
  6. Seeds

    • Seeds are baby plants waiting to grow. When they find the right conditions – soil, water, and sunlight – they sprout into a new plant.

How Plants Grow

Plants need several things to grow:

  • Sunlight: Helps them make food.
  • Water: Essential for keeping the plant hydrated.
  • Air: Plants take in carbon dioxide and release oxygen.
  • Soil: Provides nutrients for the plant to grow strong.

Importance of Plants

  • Oxygen: Plants produce the oxygen we breathe.
  • Food: Fruits, vegetables, and grains come from plants.
  • Habitat: Plants provide shelter to animals.
  • Beauty: Plants make our surroundings beautiful and green.
