Class 4 EVS Chapter 9 Reproduction in Animals @worldofworksheetswow8570
Reproduction is the process by which living things produce offspring, or babies, to ensure the survival of their species. All animals, including humans, reproduce in two main ways: laying eggs or giving birth to live young.
Types of Reproduction
There are two main types of reproduction in animals:
Oviparous Animals (Egg-laying animals):
- Animals like birds, fish, reptiles, and insects lay eggs.
- These eggs contain the baby inside a protective shell, and after a while, the baby hatches from the egg.
- Example: A hen lays eggs, and after some time, chicks hatch from the eggs.
Viviparous Animals (Animals that give birth to live young):
- Animals like mammals (humans, cows, cats) give birth to live babies.
- The baby grows inside the mother’s body until it is ready to be born.
- Example: A dog gives birth to puppies.
Life Cycle of a Frog (Example of Egg-laying Animal)
- Egg: Frogs lay eggs in water.
- Tadpole: The egg hatches into a tadpole, which lives in water and breathes with gills.
- Adult Frog: The tadpole grows legs, loses its tail, and becomes an adult frog that can live on land.
Importance of Reproduction
- Reproduction ensures that animals do not become extinct.
- It helps to maintain the balance of life in nature.
Animals have different ways of reproducing, but the goal is the same: to bring new life into the world.
