Class 8 Cordova Science Cahpter 8- Cell Structure and Function @classes6782

Why Are Cells Important?

  1. Building Blocks of Life

    • Every living organism is made up of cells.

    • Just like a building is made of bricks, a body is made of cells.

  2. Perform Life Functions

    • All functions of life like breathing, digestion, growth, and reproduction happen because of cells.

    • Specialized cells perform specific tasks (e.g., nerve cells help in sending messages).

  3. Growth and Development

    • Organisms grow by increasing the number of cells through a process called cell division.

    • New cells replace old and damaged cells.

  4. Forming Tissues and Organs

    • Similar cells group together to form tissues.

    • Tissues combine to form organs like the heart, brain, lungs, etc.

  5. Heredity and Reproduction

    • Cells carry genetic material (DNA) that is passed from parents to offspring.

    • Reproductive cells help in creating new individuals.

  6. Repair and Healing

    • When you get a cut or wound, cells divide and help in healing the skin or tissue.
